In the airport segment Automated People Mover (APM) systems, also called Passenger Transfer Systems (PTS) prevail for the connection of terminals, car rentals, parking facilities, airport hotels, taxi stations, and railway stations.

At bigger airports mainly self-propelled APM systems are used whereas at mid-sized and smaller airports rope-propelled APM systems also come into play. However, in many cases only diesel or hybrid buses are still used up to now. Airports having to deal with a passenger volume of more than 10 million passengers a year often use Automated People Mover (APM) systems. Most of the time these systems run on elevated guideways but tunnel- and indoor systems can also be encountered. Comfort and availability are important criteria. Depending on the need for action simple shuttle system configurations or powerful pinched-loop solutions will be used. Due to the high investment costs partly provoked by complex project specifications and project executions many airports cannot afford an Automated People Mover (APM). We as zatran would like to contribute to reducing project specifications to the basics to make comfortable, fully Automated People Movers (APMs) affordable for airports.
