Typical system boundaries of local passenger transport systems<\/span><\/h1>\n

Local passenger transport systems can be classified according to several criteria. Drive type, degree of automation, Right-Of-Way (ROW), track guidance, and operation represent basic classification features.<\/h2>\n

For example, passenger transport systems can be fully automated<\/strong>, partially automated<\/strong>, or manually<\/strong> operated. In addition, they can have an exclusive Right-Of-Way (ROW)<\/strong> and operate completely free of intersections and independent of individual traffic. However, a semi-exclusive ROW (partially in mixed traffic) or a non-exclusive ROW (completely in mixed traffic) are also common practice in public local passenger transport. Another classification criterion may be the primary operation of the mass transit system: E.g. at-grade<\/strong>, on elevated guideways<\/strong>, or in tunnels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Each mass transit technology has its typical system boundaries and areas of operation, which are determined by the technical characteristics and system features:
