Maglev

Maglev is the abbreviation for „Magnetic Levitation” train.

Maglev

Due to its high costs the maglev technology is not appropriate for short tracks of up to 20 km. The high costs occur because of the high precision requirements to the elevated guideway infrastructure. The distance between the permanent magnet in the vehicle and the stator magnet in the guideway needs to be constant and to lie within an area of millimeters because otherwise the waste of energy would increase immeasurably. So far two of these systems are installed in the local public transport environment, but they rather have an experimental character. Nonetheless it is a technology with a low error rate and without any emissions (noise or exhaust) and would therefore score in urban areas.

Recently, the company Max Bögl from Germany launched a product development called TSB of a new type of Transrapid for local urban passenger transport up to 20 km line length.
